Plus One Gallery
Plus One Gallery was established in 2001 by Colin Pettit and Maggie Bollaert. Originally situated in Seymour Place, Marylebone, London, the gallery moved to Pimlico Road in 2006 and enjoyed many years in this iconic part of the UK Capital firmly becoming a significant part of the London art market but with an international client base for art collectors and art buyers worldwide. Plus One Gallery relocated to the Piper Building (Fulham) in April 2018 to a great space in a mainly residential building that has established the gallery as a private space open by appointment only to provide a more personal service and experience to the clients.
Plus One Gallery is dedicated to the development and promotion of British and international contemporary Hyperrealism. The gallery maintains a high standard of painters and sculptors, representing a number of Masters within the field alongside an array of emerging artists as well as a select number of original Photorealist artist’s from 1960s.
We aim to cater to each client’s individual specification. Holding external museum shows, pop- ups and intimate private views in the gallery around six times a year, we run an innovative and eclectic exhibition programme, which can be viewed on the ‘Exhibitions’ page on our website.
Plus One Gallery works alongside a variety of hyperrealist artists who specialise in many different areas of Hyperrealism such as, still life, urban landscape, landscape, portrait and human figure. Through this wide range of styles and themes; whether you are looking for a colourful culinary still life or a perfect rendition of a vintage car, we have something for everybody. Take a look through our artist’s pages where we hope to inspire you.
We pride ourselves on having specialist knowledge. Our accomplished team are incredibly passionate about our represented artists and are committed to providing them with the best possible platform to gain the recognition we believe they deserve.
Throughout the pandemic, we have embraced technology even more than we had before circumstances made this essential, and we have created online experiences so that we could still connect with potential and existing clients. We have introduced regular virtual reality exhibitions, FaceTime/ WhatsApp/ Zoom viewings and an augmented reality function on your phone where you can view a painting on your wall or a sculpture by your window. We are excited by the enormous potential that has developed and we intend to be at the forefront of the technological advances so we can cater for our client’s and artists needs going forward in this 21stcentury.
Plus One Gallery has published three books on the topic of Hyperrealism. April 2009 saw the launch of our book ‘Exactitude, Hyperrealist Art Today’ published by Thames and Hudson and Plus One Publishing. “Michael’s perfectionist genius is masked by a soft spoken, shyly diffident presence. His own inner piece is reflected in the tranquility of his landscapes. Rendered with a detailed observation that is almost per-Raphaelite, the results nonetheless manifest some of the mystical naivete of the fantasy junglecapes of Henri Rousseau. Getting to know Michael french on painting trips to the Forbes Trinchera Ranch in Southern Colorado and the chateau De Balleroy in Normandy, has been a privilege and a pleasure.

One evening my wife Astrid, handed me a brochure that we had received from James Whitfield Fine Art. She was taken with the images of exquisitely rendered lily pads in the gloaming half light of a pond at dusk. It was her first exposure to the work of Michael French. Getting to know Michael on painting trips to the Forbes Trinchera Ranch in Southern Colorado and to our Chateau de Balleroy in Normandy, France has been a privilege and a pleasure.
His perfectionist genius is masked by a soft- spoken, shyly diffident person. His own inner peace is reflected in the tranquility of his paintings. Rendered with a detailed observation that is similar to that of the Pre-Raphaelites, the results nonetheless manifest some of the mystical naiveté of the fantasy junglescapes of Henri Rousseau.
The Forbes Magazine Galleries (museum) are honored to be the venue for the first major New York retrospective of Michael French’s work. This exhibition would not have been possible without the generosity of many lenders. To them all, and especially President and Mrs. Bush and the Bush Presidential Library collection, our deepest thanks.
